Visitor Info

TRIPS

We encourage one day trips. From Mukkali you can drive up to Sairandhri, the first campsite inside Silent Valley National Park. Only Jeeps can drive up the Ghat road. From Sairandhri visitors can walk up to the banks of River Kunti.(3Km) Treks inside the Park are not encouraged only researchers and officers of forest department are allowed to venture further inside the Park.

On the way to the Park, visitors can trek at the near by Attapdy reserve and enjoy the beauty of the Bhavani Valley.

ACCOMMODATION

Dormitory facility and three rooms (3bed) are available at Mukkali. Prior booking is required. Or visitors can stay at hotels at Mannarkkad, Palakkad or Coimbatore and drive up to Mukkali.

 

GUIDES

Eco Development committee members of Silent Valley National Park act as guides. Without a guide no visitors are allowed to proceed from Mukkali

CAMPS

Educational Institutions and Nature clubs can avail Nature Camps organized by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, Government of Kerala. Paid and subsidized camps are allowed. For details contact the Wildlife Warden by phone or e-mail. 30 individuals can attend a camp. Dormitory facility is available along with classes, treks and film shows.

Best time to Visit the Valley

From November to April is the best time to visit Silent Valley National Park

Things to remember when you visit:

Come with a mind to learn more about nature and enjoy the beauty and tranquility of the place. Liquor, camp fire etc are strictly prohibited. Remember that you are visiting a very precious Rain Forest area and approach with respect.

Bring dull colored cotton clothing, shoe, medicines, camera, and other essential items. No fire arms please. Carry your things in rucksacks or cotton bags, No plastic carry bags, plates , cups, bottles etc.

Come in a small group, preferably not more than 6-8 people. Listen to your guide. Never make noise inside forest areas, do not walk alone and be always with the group.

Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary, Mukkurthi National Park, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary, Athirappilly Waterfalls, Malampuzha Gardens, Thekkady, Munnar, Nelliampathy Hills, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary

The final authority on all matters relating to the visit inside Silent Valley National Park are the WildLife Warden and the Chief Wild Life Warden or any officer acting under their orders.

 

 

Perhaps it was all worth it. Some human being walking through it sometimes, passing an inner revolution, shall ask the question : " Oh Mother, am I thy flesh and blood, feel and fever; shall I be thine and would would you be mine ?" That Silent question will be responded to in Silence; in the Silence by the reverential bowing of human will and the trailing branches of trees in Silent Valley.
