Reptiles

Silent Valley offers one of the widest possible ranges for reptiles like snakes as the area harbours different types of vegetation , climatic condition, altitudinal zones and topography . Occurrence of 25 species of snakes has been confirmed. A literature survey on the distribution of snakes indicates the possibility of several others, atleast 19 more occurring in the area. Silent Valley is still under explored and needs intensive herpetological survey.

Silent Valley harbours 35 species of reptiles . Eleven species out of the 35 species are endemic to the Western ghats. Nineteen species of amphibians including two new species of frogs are recorded from Silent Valley.

Perhaps it was all worth it. Some human being walking through it sometimes, passing an inner revolution, shall ask the question : " Oh Mother, am I thy flesh and blood, feel and fever; shall I be thine and would would you be mine ?" That Silent question will be responded to in Silence; in the Silence by the reverential bowing of human will and the trailing branches of trees in Silent Valley.
