Fishes

The kunthi river system , a tributary of Bharathapuzha, drains the Silent Valley area. Studies on the water quality parameters indicated that the kunthi river is one of the most non-contaminated, pristine river systems in the region. Fish diversity is low.

Fresh water fishes found are:

  • Anguilla benalensis
  • Barilius gatensis
  • Channa gachua
  • Garra mullya
  • G.menoni
  • Glyptothorax annandalei
  • Homaloptera Montana
  • H.pillaii
  • Lepidocephalus thermalis
  • Noemacheilus triangularis
  • N.guentheri
  • Puntius melanampyx

Perhaps it was all worth it. Some human being walking through it sometimes, passing an inner revolution, shall ask the question : " Oh Mother, am I thy flesh and blood, feel and fever; shall I be thine and would would you be mine ?" That Silent question will be responded to in Silence; in the Silence by the reverential bowing of human will and the trailing branches of trees in Silent Valley.
