Butterflies and Moths

“For a companion
On my walking
Trip …..perhaps
a little butterfly”
- Shiki

Everywhere, be it the canopy high up, or branches of shrubs, or beds of fallen leaves, or banks of streams one is sure to spot these fragile traveling companions. These include an astonishing variety from some of the biggest butterflies in the Western Ghats such as the Southern Birdwing, the Blue Mormon and the Red Helen to the smaller species such as the Cupid, the Psyche and the Pierrots.

Of the 128 species of butterflies identified in the Valley, nine are exclusive to the Western Ghats.

Perhaps it was all worth it. Some human being walking through it sometimes, passing an inner revolution, shall ask the question : " Oh Mother, am I thy flesh and blood, feel and fever; shall I be thine and would would you be mine ?" That Silent question will be responded to in Silence; in the Silence by the reverential bowing of human will and the trailing branches of trees in Silent Valley.
